Over the past twenty years, Khaosan Rd. has developed into such a well-known place.
It is considered a must-visit ghetto by backpackers from Western countries.

On this short street, there are hotels or hostels providing cheap accommodation,
appetizing aroma drifting from food stalls, and street vendors selling Thai handicrafts and souvenir items.

Then of course there is a cluster of bars/diners and pubs.

Music with strong beat blared!

This is definately a one-of-a-kind place!

Walking down this vibrant, hectic and rather cluttered street,
you can hear heavily accented street vendors advertising their items in English.

Some vendors push their carts around selling local food.

Various types of tropical fruit can be found at fruit trucks.
There is a major difference between Khao San Rd. and other night markets you find in Bangkok.
Here on this street, besides local street vendors, faces you see in the crowd are mainly Caucasians.
Most of them are young backpackers in much less conservative clothes than Thais, such as camis, shorts, and flip-flops.
You've got this fun and exotic vibe of the west meets the east on this street.
I guess you can say that hormones in these young backpackers' body is usually raging out of control.
Many of them are looking to drink and party like crazy.

So on the street, we sawThais holding signs, advertising "very strong" alcohol at their bars!
When we were first stopped by one of them, we simply smiled and shook our head.
Then there was this Thai guy persistently trying to talk Mr. Ren into taking me to their bar.
He kept pointing at me and winking toward me, and repeated in his thick Thai accent, "Vely strong, Vely vely strong....."
He was suggesting that if Mr. Ren wanted something to happen, their booze would definately knock me out. Then he could do whatever he wanted to me...........
I couldn't help but bursted into laughter.
If we really wanted to do something, why did he even need to knock me out? Hahahahaha.....
(Mr. Ren: hey lady, no need to be this blunt and outspoken....)

There was even a mobile currency exchange van.

When we walked past this stall selling corn snack, the sweet fragrance of the corn defintely got my attention.

The corn kernels are mixed with sugar, salt, butter, and milk.

A simple snack, but the smell and the taste was just heavenly!
It was just a small vending cart.
But the bright yellow color of the kernels and the pretty colors of the containers, utensils and even the aprons were a great combination.
Just like what I wrote in my previous post, Thai people have this incredible talent of mix and matching colors in such tastful styles.
When we first got here, it was raining quite hard already.
But after we had finished looking around, rain started pouring down.
Well, since our legs were quite sore from walking and sightseeing all day,
we picked a bar/restaurant to get some food and stretch our legs.

We didn't expect the food to be good, since we assumed food here was for tourists.

Well, we thought it would be nice just to enjoy the atmosphere.

It felt like we were back in the States when we stepped into this place. Haha!

We ordered a hamburger meal and a Thai green curry dish.
Since we didn't assume the food to be impressive, we weren't in a hurry to dig in when the food came.
We just took lots of snaps of this cool and fun restaurant.

The hamburger was plain and dull, as expected.
But this green curry turned out to be a big surprise.
Fresh veggies in varying colors. (Some were unidentified yet tasty Thai vegetables)
The veggies had completely soaked up the wonderful green curry saucce.
It was rich, creamy and sweet. Just sooooooooooo good.
After feeling stunned by its great taste at the first bite, we were so busy gulping down the food.
It never occured to us to take a close-up snap of the dish.
The taste of this dish was the highlight of our food experience during this two week trip in Thailand.
We still keep talking about how good it tasted now.

The plates were licked clean.
See how happy Mr. Ren was with his mouth open like that.
It felt so satisfying.

Happy~~

We were even happier when the check came.
For a big meal for 2 including the drinks, it was only a 325 Baht check (around ten US dollars.)
This is usually the price of one dish either in Taiwan or in LA.

I didn't just enjoy the food and sightseeing. The shopping on this street was fun too.

Paid for less than 200Baht for either of these slippers.

Love the patterns and the colors.
And they really are durable and sturdy.

Khaosan Rd. in the city center of Bangkok, is a place where the east and the west blend in its own interesting way.
